5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Love of God

Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2016

From the first poem that so perfectly captures every school student’s dilemma of windows in the classroom ever beckoning the soul to the great outdoors to Kateri and father’s love she inspired, to my favorite line "our very being is His hymn", I find John’s book a rich meditation.

John’s words touch God within and without from the earthly very man and his deep feelings of love and limitation to the ascended man, fully embraced by God’s fullness. I love John’s miraculous awareness of God’s presence in each moment of life and fullness of feeling it. He helps us relate and feel it with him. He seems never to have lost his love of God even in the fullness of his humanity.

These poems are a great gift of the generosity of spirit John has and I am grateful to John and Judy for seeing to it that they can be put into our hands and use for our good and the greater good. It reads as a great intimacy of walking with God as a constant orientation of life. And by reading it we are brought into that orientation which has a raising effect by proxy.

If anyone didn’t know or love God before reading any of this, they surely will afterward. Wow.

John Rosenbaum’s Though Gatherings is full of spiritual and heartfelt poems about family, God, the world we live in and everyday life. Especially, enjoyed his writings about Hunting, the Wind, Night Life, his Father and his children. I had the privilege of meeting John Rosenbaum a this year and he is an intelligent, kind and gentle person just as his writings show you.

There was a time when ordinary folks were routinely trained in the craft of occasional verse. Men and women were expected to co memorate special occasions with original poems, produced according to generally accepted standards. No one — thanks be to God — told John J. Rosenbaum that those days had passed. And so he has spent an eventful lifetime and marked all of its personal, familial, and spiritual milestones with lines made for the moment, but here preserved for the next generation. His devotional verse chronicles his maturation in understanding the faith. Time spent with this book is well spent.

5.0 out of 5 stars An insightful read you won’t want to miss!

If you have ever been in the woods in the early morning and it took your breath away, this book of poetry and reminiscence by John Rosenbaum will be a great read. His deep thoughts and ideas are without pretension. The words flow with a woodsy, humble, down-home clarity. John takes you on an insightful ride. John’s thoughts are in touch with God with a deep appreciation of the world around him. John is someone who speaks with God, but more importantly listens for that still small voice emanating from the wonders of everyday life. His reflections will touch your heart.

Just finished reading "Thought Gatherings". This book is full of spiritual and emotional writings about family, life, God and everyday living. Especially, enjoyed his writings about his children and grandchildren. Each was filled with love which brought me to tears because of the tenderness he felt for each and everyone. I had the privilege of meeting John Rosenbaum a couple of years ago and he is as kind and gentle in person as he is in his writings. He certainly touched my heart in person and in his book.

This collection of poems written by Mr. Rosenbaum is a thought provoking collection describing life, love for others, compassion, and soul. His dedication to God and his family is apparent in every single poem in this book. The aura of his being shines through the pages and words in this collection. If only the person reading this book could meet Mr. Rosenbaum in person. He is one of the kindest, caring, and most passionate people I know who has talents that reach far beyond my comprehension. A truly amazing book by a truly gifted man!

5.0 out of 5 stars I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The author is so insightful in expressing his feelings and thoughts of the many varied experiences he has had through his life. Especially poignant are the poems written about his children and grandchildren. His faith and love of mankind are evident in his writings. In a couple of poems, I could see a parallel to my own life, expressed in exquisite poetry. In the many variety of poems, every reader should find parallels to their life, expressed eloquently.
